It’s Spring Cleansing Time!

Spring is well and truly in the air!! The trees are blossoming and the wind has changed to a warm breeze. I love Spring!! This is the season to attend to the Liver & Gall Bladder. In Spring we naturally eat less, or even fast to cleanse the body of the fats and heavy foods of winter. It’s the perfect time to renew your cleansing plan after many months spent indoors breathing less fresh air, less movement & perhaps other than the best foods. Detoxifying is the antidote and can spell increased energy, fewer allergy symptoms, reduced hormonal imbalances, improved digestion, clearer sinuses, normalized blood pressure, fewer moods swings, sharper mental ability, improved sleep, healthier skin and much more.

Here’s my top 4 Reasons You Need to Detox :

  1. You have FLC Syndrome (Feel Like Crap) Bloated, Tired & other than glowing..
  2. You can’t shift weight & keep it off- jeans too tight
  3. You can’t curb sugar & carb cravings (time to weed the garden)
  4. You haven’t detoxed since last Spring!!
Join me for Operation Spring Cleanse!!
Look forward to seeing you soon.

Peace Worldwide Starts Inside

Peace Worldwide Starts Inside

The brain and the digestion work together. Scientuists have known for a long time that the brain stimulates the digestive organs through para -sympathetic activities, such as sight, smell and taste – which in turn stimulate hunger. Psycological factors also impact hunger and digestion, influencing the movements of the intestines, secretion of digestive enzymes and other digestive functions. Intense emotions ( like sadness or anger) will set off a train reaction that can either stimulate or reduce hunger, causing either weight gain or loss and lead to digestive dis – ease.

On the other hand the digestive system influences the brain. For example , irritable bowel syndrome ( IBS) , ulcerative colitis and other gut “unwellness” can affect emotions, behaviours and normal daily functioning. This is a two way axis called the GUT- BRAIN AXIS.

Because of the connection to autonomic nervous system, the digestive organs can be a common cause of psychosomatic illnesses. Many IBSsuffres  can become more extreme under stress leading to psychiatric disorder. Those who suffer panic attacks for example often report bowel disorders, with intestinal triggers starting off a chain of events. Other illnesses , such as auto- immunity and even Cancer can have a pshyco – somatic(mind/body)  link..

My Top Tips for overcoming Sugar Addiction

sugarBesides increase  bulge around the waistline, diets high in sugar are strongly linked to an increased risk for type 2 diabetes, elevated triglycerides low HDL (good) cholesterol levels, and  heart disease Sugar intake has also been linked to depression, migraines, poor eyesight, autoimmune diseases (such as arthritis, and multiple sclerosis), gout and osteoporosis. One of the concerns I see is that clients really don’t know how these cravings started and how they can overcome their sweet tooth addiction…

Here’s some insight;

  1. One of the first things to do is reduce or even eliminate caffeine. The ups & owns of too much coffee or other include dehydration and this thirst is often overlooked for a sweet hit causing blood sugar levels to swing which in turn lead to more frequent cravings.  Limit your coffee/ caffeinated to one or 2 cups per day. Less if you have some adrenal fatigue.
  2. Eat more sweet veggies, things like sweet potatoes, red capsicum, lightly sautéed onions in coconut oil. They will naturally satisfy and provide bulk fibre. Good for your digestion and of course stabilizing blood sugar levels.
  3. How much animal food do you eat? According to Yin Yang principles of eating as TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and macrobiotics. Easing too much Yang food can lead top cravings for sweets (Yin), which in turn created cravings for heavy salted food. The pendulum swinging to widely and not finding a balance in between.
  4. Move, move, and move. Get more active. Sleep, sleep, sleep and rest and relaxation are equally important to provide balance.  Be kind to yourself. Both exercise and rest are of equal importance.
  5. Slooowww down.. and find sweetness in other non- food ways. Not every craving is a signal that your body biologically requires sugar. Cravings can have a psychological component. By identifying which is psychological we can adjust accordingly with more self-loving “sweet” practices. When life is sweet enough- no additives are needed.

Look forward to seeing you soon.!

Autumn- the season of Clearing

In Chinese Medicine (TCM) autumn is the dance between summer  & winter. It’s a time to begin turning inward to learn more about ourselves after the full bounty of summer. Energetically it is the season of “letting go “ connected to the Large Intestine meridian.  This is where we can store physical & emotional junk that can weigh us down. Autumn returns us to our essence moves along what no longer serves to reveal what is most important to us.

The opposing/complimentary organ in Autumn is the Lung meridian- if this meridian is blocked we are unable to see past the letting go of the Colon to take in new inspiration (the breath) Building life force between the two is vital if we are to go into the Winter with a strong immunity.

This is an ideal time to do your yearly (preferably twice yearly) parasite cleanse- think of it as your insurance policy.  Due to pesticides, fungicides, hormones etc in our food chain, its most likely our inner ecology is disrupted which means not enough good bacteria- overgrowth bad bacteria, yeast & fungus (yes even worms) can be nesting throughout our digestive system living off our good nutrition.

Here are my self- care practices for autumn season:

  •  Taking time each day to consciously breathe, either on the mat at yoga or just lying in bed. Feeling the expansion of my lungs & belly on inspiration & exhaling out the old stuff.
  • Naomi & I are both gearing up for our first Gall Bladder flush together soon. (In preparation we will be doing a parasite cleanse together along with Colonics and some e juicing. Switching to root veggies (carrots, sweet potato,  along with some greens & spirulina. Eating more soups & warm veggie dishes too.
  • Passive sweating via FAR sauna therapy- mindfully keeping up hydration. It’s easy for me to forget about drinking water when it’s not so hot.I head to Bali this weekend for the next Retreat and leave you all in the best hands of Deb & Naomi until I return at the end of March .

Remember to Breathe…

how-to-breatheI love this time of year, it’s a celebration of all that has unfolded during the past 12 months and an opportunity to let go of the old to make way for the new year…

Start off with the intention of letting go of that which is no longer useful and receiving that which is nourishing and restorative.

I regularly see clients who struggle with this practice and this can manifest in the physical form of problems with the digestive tract- particularly the large intestine (Colon). Held tension and waste in the bowel is something I see regularly. This buildup of toxic waste will effect overall health and create discomfort in the body (pain, inflammation, skin issues, fatigue etc) When stress is at the root, then the nervous system needs to be balanced (think tonic herbs). When diet, environmental toxicity and gut inflammation are the root then we need therapeutic treatments like Colonics and nutritional support to get things moving.. In most cases a blend of two is most successful;

Part of my learning this year has been working more with the breath. If there is stored tension in the abdomen, it is likely that there is some deficient breathing. I notice this particularly with those with something “stuck” in an energetic way. When we bring our attention back to the breath and just notice what it is doing when we are in certain situations and remember to breathe!!  Big belly breaths in through the mouth into the belly and ribcage and out through the mouth or nose – whatever feels good for you.  Deep belly breathing creates circulation around the organs and allows them to move more freely. It dispels toxicity in more ways than one and can help release old emotions providing deep relief and relaxation.

Remember the more you breath- the more you come alive.

Take care of your body; it’s the most glorious place to live.,

What about Gas??

Peace Worldwide Starts Inside

Peace Worldwide Starts Inside

Having some gas is an indication of normal intestinal health & function. Excessive and painful; gas build up is not. The intestines can register discomfort from gas before pain from inflammation, adhesions or ulceration. It is best to pay attention to gas pain, understand the cause and then alleviate it properly.

Gas is usually caused by:

  1. Improper food combinations (no fruits or protein with complex carbohydrates)
  2. Drinking excessive amounts of fluid with meals that dilute digestive enzymes
  3. Fast, thoughtless eating without  chewing
  4. Excessive fat and protein can retard digestion and lead to increased putrification and free radical levels.
  5. Lactose intolerance( Inability to break down dairy based sugars)
  6. Inability to break down complex sugars and starches.
  7. Allergies
  8. Not enough digestive secretions being produced from the liver. Gall bladder, pancreas stomach and small intestines.
  9. Too many pathogenic bacteria that feed on undigested food particles
  10. Accumulations of waste leading to constipation
  11. Stress
  12. Not enough exercise to tone the abdominal muscles , inhibiting circulation to the intestinal tract and digestive organs.

Suggestions to help reduce excessive gas:

  • Take a series of Colon hydrotherapy sessions
  • Massage the abdomen
  • Prcatice deep breathing
  • Exercise ( yoga, swimming, walking)
  • Meditate (rest)
  • Fast ( one of Gandhi’s dietary rules is to abstain from eating when in pain)
  • Take a hot bath
  • Use specific herbs and digestive enzymes & probotics

Supplement diet with rich minerals found in ocean and lake algae , also land grasses such as wheatgrass and barley.
